UNLOCK IPHONE 4S - but continue with FIDO once back in Canada??

Hi, I am leaving Canada to Brazil for 6 weeks and want to get a local SIM card for my iphone 4S for - which is currently locked to Fido in Canada. Can I unlock the phone and use abroad, then simply re-insert my FIDO SIM card when I return to Canada and continue as before? If not, what happens? Any...
