How to replant blue eyed grass

Late this summer, I found a lot of blue eyed grass growing along the roadside and I badly want to "rescue" some of it. I have never had luck before. Can anyone help me with some tips to successfully move this to my garden? I know it's not advisable to amend the soil and not to water it much. Even though I have taken care of all this, it doesn't seem to work. The plant still always dies. Any help would be appreciated.
