Is laser surgery better than glasses..!!

I have been diagnosed with short sight a few years back. I used to wear either glasses or contacts all the time. I'm very tired of wearing glasses and contacts because every year my prescription continues to get stronger. The prolonged use of these made my eyes dry, watery and tired. Once I asked my doctor, Is it possible to see sharply again without them. Then my doctor suggested me to take laser surgery to overcome short sight and glasses. I heard that only for some particular conditions laser surgery is effective. I have been using glasses and contacts for years. I wanted to get rid of glasses if there is a better option available, but I am in confusion now. I wanted to take a second opinion from another ophthalmologist from Toronto in this. My doctor had already taken several tests on my eye. I have the reports with me. So if I could get some referral, I can consult the doctor. If anyone can recommend a reputed eye specialist, it would be really helpful for me.
