Google maps on iPhone 3GS work ok?

Picked up a unlocked 3GS and want to know if Google maps work ok on it. I'm running a T-Mo SIM and get EDGE speed and have read that Google maps may not work. I need _voice navigation_ as I'm frequently in heavy traffic (S.F./Bay Area) and set my Android on speaker phone and it works great....
