American Phone Bad ESN... Will it work on Rogers?

Hello i am looking at some phones on ebay, If the phones has a BAD ESN, but its a american phone,,, and i bring it over to Canada and try to work it on the Rogers network... Would it work? Or will it not work? Any explanation or help would be appreciated Thanks
