Apple Headphones Hard to Put On and Off

I just tried out the Apple headphone/headset you get with every iPhone packaging and when I put them into my 5s and took them out it was hard to do is there an easier way to put these on/off? I'm afraid by inserting or removing them it will ruin the headphone jack?
