Is there a simply way to put a ring tone on a iPhone4

I am sure this has been answered before but I have been unable to find a method that works for me. I have the iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1 and iTunes 10.6.3.25. I have been trying for over forty hours (on and off for several days) to install a custom ring tone. Just can't seem to put it together, either...
