Just bought a 4s

Switched to a 4s yesterday to use on cricket. The software that it activated with was 7.1, keeping in mind that it's a 4s to use w a prepaid, is there any reason to switch to the newest software. I haven't kept up with apple in years. So don't want to have any slowdown if the new os is too...
