The Dalai Lama is turning 80 years old on July 6, but he doesn’t want any gifts. Instead, your social media presence is the present.
In honor of his milestone birthday, His Holiness is asking people to share photos, videos and quotes depicting people simply treating one another kindly, along with the hashtag #withcompassion on social accounts.
“He has done so much to spread peace and compassion to the world – this is our opportunity to truly say thank you and to show him the incredible impact his work has on the global community,” Ven. Lama Tenzin Dhonden, founder and chair of Friends of the Dalai Lama nonprofit (http://www.friendsofdalailama.org/), said in an email statement.
The Dalai Lama’s network of friends -- including Common, Arianna Huffington, Larry King, Russell Simmons and Randy Jackson -- are helping get the word out in the video above.
