Have ever had something in your life that you were ashamed of? That you probably don't tell people or when you do, wish that part weren't a part of your story that you had to share?
There's so many parts of my career transition story that I LOVE!! I mean absolutely, positively love! But as I get ready to celebrate my business anniversary this week, there is one part that I sometimes wish were different, and that is that it took a layoff to propel me to the place I am today as a keynote speaker, executive coach, and Courageous Life Mentor.
Yes it was still courageous to say I'm not going back. And yes, I was working on an active plan to leave anyway. But that doesn't negate the fact, whether it's a company downsize or not, that you weren't the one chosen to stay. I mean who wants to go around yelling,
"Heyyyyy, look at me I got laid off", with a waving a hand in the air!"
And although I know technically I could I leave that part out, I can't! Because I know that so many people need to learn how to master what seems to be their mess but truly is their message for their next season! I know that others who have the little bit of (or maybe a lot) of shame about the very thing they keep secret or wish they didn't have to share is actually their set up for success.
Vunerability and transparency are two of the most powerful behaviors and skills that can help you build relationships and expand your influence.
Leverage the very thing that you have every right to be ashamed of to your advantage for your success!
This week, two years ago, I was literally given the opportunity to pick where I wanted to be in my next role. Only to find out after that weekend, that there was any next role, at least not for me. In matter of hours my conversation went from, "Where do you see yourself Melissa? To "There's no place for you Melissa." So many parts of me wanted to ask, "God what just happened!" But deep down inside, I knew the answer...He just happened.
Only divine interventions cause things to shift that quickly and so drastically. Let's be honest, moving from your career to your calling, is not easy, it takes real work, and more importantly it takes a plan.
If something has suddenly shifted in your life or you feel like it's about to shift, know that sudden shifts do two things:
1) protect you from something or
2) make room for something.
In my case, my sudden shift made room for something major! The very next day, I already had plans to get on a plane to Orlando, FL for a 3-day conference with one of my now mentors, John Maxwell, the #1 leadership expert in the world!
You may be going through a shift!
But be encouraged because I assure you that
