The Fox network trotted out the stars and creators of three of its new fall shows — Scream Queens, The Grinder, and Grandfathered — on Thursday morning, part of the Television Critics Association gathering in Los Angeles. Three very different shows: Scream Queens is a horror-satire from Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story); The Grinder stars Fred Savage as a lawyer and Rob Lowe as his brother, who played a lawyer on TV; Grandfathered is a sitcom featuring John Stamos as a smooth lothario who suddenly discovers he has a son (and a grandchild) he never knew existed.
But as each individual press conference proceeded, a theme began to emerge: The varying degrees of anxiety the characters, and the actors cast in those roles, feel in portraying characters who are getting older, or at least are required to behave more maturely.
