We've all been there: It's Tuesday night, and you're in bed scrolling through your Instagram feed, hating your life and dreading your next post because everyone else's seem more exciting.
A new Instagram hashtag -- #TotalHonestyTuesday (https://instagram.com/explore/tags/totalhonesty/) -- might help cure that social media anxiety (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=2015/02/26/social-media-anxiety-texting-fomo_n_6760166.html).
Chelsea Fagan, founder of personal finance blog The Financial Diet (http://thefinancialdiet.com/), started the campaign in June to remind social media users that social media is not, and should not, be used only for the most memorable or share-worthy moments of people's lives. Sometimes we just need to lay it all out there, even if we're not presenting the most glamorous things about ourselves.
The purpose of the hashtag is "sharing the things we'd usually keep off social media and giving a little more insight into our real (and very un-perfect) lives," Fagan wrote in one post (http://thefinancialdiet.com/the-totalhonestytuesday-roundup-vol-7/).
"Hopefully, together, we can all feel a little less pressure to seem perfect, and a little more freedom to be ourselves," she wrote in another (http://thefinancialdiet.com/the-totalhonestytuesday-roundup-vol-1/).
The hashtag has garnered over 300 submissions to date, Fagan told The Huffington Post in an email. While she has received submissions across a wide range of themes, she noticed two big ones: finance, probably because her blog focuses on "being honest and better with money"; and body issues, "because that's something that never 'looks good' on social media."

I went to a dentist to have my teeth fixed, instead I was told that I was very attractive BUT people couldn't see it because... my teeth needed to be "rehabilitated". His very words, yes. He just had to rub it in. While I haven't fully dismissed the idea of having a statement smile, I am dismissive of the fact(?) that the measure of attractiveness (and even success) should be based on outer appearances. I usually take selfies with my duckface on but today, here's an idontgiveaflyingratsass smile to celebrate #totalhonestytuesday PS: Im using a filter because my skin is also in dire need of rehabilitation, and I dont want to give it all in one go. #totalhonestytuesday.... american eagle is my savior and my biggest vice. their constant 50% off clearance sales are beautiful for someone who can't afford their clothes full price, but that means i end up treating myself far too often. fortunately, an extra 20% off + free shipping made these impulse purchases worth it. My first #totalhonestytuesday I wasn't going to post this picture because in my mind, it isn't enough or worthy of sharing. I haven't always been proud of my body. I've often struggled with my appearance and wanting to be slimmer, stronger, more defined.
