A Swedish prosecutor has halted (http://www.rt.com/news/312332-assange-charges-expire-sweden/)part of its investigation against Julian Assange, Reuters reported (http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/08/13/uk-sweden-assange-idUKKCN0QI12I20150813) on Thursday.

Three of the four sexual assault allegations against Assange were set to expire within a week. (http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/08/sex-claims-wikileaks-founder-assange-expire-150812083916328.html)

The statute of limitations for most sex crimes is five years in Sweden. The most serious of the accusations Assange is facing, rape, doesn't expire for another five years, according to Al Jazeera. (http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/08/sex-claims-wikileaks-founder-assange-expire-150812083916328.html) Swedish officials plan to continue its investigation into the rape allegation.

The WikiLeaks founder has denied all charges. (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-11047025)

Assange, who has been living in asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since 2012, was never interviewed by Swedish authorities for the sex crime allegations. According to Swedish law, the BBC points out (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33894757), a suspect can't be charged until formally interviewed by authorities.

Sweden has been unable to extradite Assange, and he refuses to voluntarily leave the UK for fear he'll be sent to America. Assange has been wanted in the U.S. since he published hoards of classified government documents three years ago.
