Mississippi State University was on lockdown Thursday morning following reports of a gunman on campus.
MSU spokesman Sid Salter told The Associated Press in a phone interview Thursday that the person had been arrested. The university had issued an online alert shortly after 10 a.m. saying a gunman had been reported near Carpenter Hall, which houses MSU's mechanical engineering department and overlooks the Drill Field at the heart of the 20,000-student university in Starkville. The gunman was later reported near Lee Hall, the university's main administration building.

Trevor Pounds, a 21-year-old senior marketing major at the university, told The Huffington Post he saw the suspected gunman being arrested by police.
"I never heard any gunshots," Pounds said. "But I saw people jumping out of first floor windows, hauling ass down Drill Field."

Pounds said a Maroon Alert went out 10:16 a.m. calling for a lockdown, and that a second alert went out at 10:28 a.m. stating that the situation was under control.
There have been no additional reports of any danger. Please remain calm and follow Maroon Alerts outlets for accurate information
