There is a three-month window for the prestigious event, officially known as the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau. From December 1, an invited list of 30 of the world's top surfers await the required conditions for it to be staged, including minimum 20-foot waves. It has been held just eight times in 30 years.
