When Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer hired former Time Inc. bigwig Martha Nelson over the summer, it seemed like the beginning of a reinvention story—a legacy magazine maven embarking on her second act at a legacy web portal that has struggled to forge its identity as a publisher.
Four months later, as she has settled into her new role running Yahoo's media unit, Nelson could be forgiven if she is thinking, "What have I gotten myself into?"
