The first two weeks of 2016 have served as a strong reminder that stock market volatility is inevitable. On Friday, the Dow dropped 391 points, finishing off a terrible opening two weeks for investors in which the index went down over 1,400 points. While the market slides are driven in part by crude oil prices, expectations about future stock returns, flat company earnings, and Chinese market fears, the volatility should not be unexpected. In fact, you should also expect a large jump in the market sometime soon, akin to the upward swing this past Thursday in which the Dow rose over 220 points.
