Chipotle will close all of its locations (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/chipotle-closing-restaurants_us_56991e3ce4b0ce4964242e82) during lunch on Monday for a company-wide meeting on food safety, among other topics. All 1,900 stores will stay closed for around four hours before opening at 3 p.m. local time.
We’re having a national employee meeting on 2/8 to discuss recent and future food safety changes. All US locations will be closed until 3pm.

The company is holding a "national team meeting" to discuss food safety changes, and CEO Steve Ells will be on hand to answer any questions from employees.
The burrito giant has faced several high-profile food safety issues over the past year, including an E. coli outbreak that sickened 55 people in nearly a dozen states. Other Chipotle locations have been hit with Salmonella (http://www.startribune.com/twin-cities-salmonella-outbreak-linked-to-chipotle/326499341/) and norovirus (http://www.ibtimes.com/chipotle-norovirus-investigation-timeline-customers-getting-sick-2253704).
In response, the company will institute new washing procedures for lettuce and tomatoes (http://money.cnn.com/2016/02/07/news/companies/chipotle-e-coli-restaurant-closing/) and will blanch some (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/chipotle-tweaks-cooking-methods-after-e-coli-outbreak_us_567a9ef3e4b014efe0d78d8a) ingredients. Other food items, including chopped tomatoes and grated cheese, will no longer be prepared on site, but rather at a central facility where quality control tests can take place.
The U.S. Justice Department said that its consumer protection unit would look for any misconduct (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-chipotle-mexican-u-s-justice-dept-idUSKBN0UM2GS20160109) by the company, and the FDA began investigating the E. coli incident last year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Feb. 1 that the E. coli outbreak "appears to be over. (http://www.fda.gov/Food/RecallsOutbreaksEmergencies/Outbreaks/ucm470410.htm)"
Chipotle's sales have plummeted (http://www.businessinsider.com.au/chipotles-sales-decline-is-just-beginning-2015-12?r=US&IR=T) since the issues began. The company said earlier this year it would launch a new marketing push to win back customers (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/chipotle-set-for-big-push-to-win-back-customers_us_5696cd70e4b0778f46f8137d).
