Earthplus, a non-profit organization focused on sustainable development, lifestyle and practices organized a three-day online competition on Facebook to mark World Wildlife Day. The aim of the competition was to promote the theme of World Wildlife Day 2016 'The future of Wildlife is in our hands'. The organization decided to put Wildlife and its intricacies in the hands of Nigerians who for the three day duration of the competition engaged in a contest of who had more knowledge of wildlife.
The first day of the competition kicked off with the round of 14. Fourteen carefully handpicked contestants from a pool that applied were to run against each other. The round of 14 contestants was determined by the rarity of the kind of wildlife they sent in; those who sent in rare and unpopular animals had higher chances.

The round of 14 was in three phases. The first phase was a photo prompt where contestants were asked to identify wildlife and give certain facts about them and their lifestyle. The second phase was a brain teaser where contestants unscrambled words and answered riddles on wildlife. The third phase was a 'fastest finger' routine where the fastest correct answer got the points.

According to one contestant, Stephanie Somtochokwu, "It was fun and I learnt a lot."
At the end of the day, six people were shortlisted to compete at the semi-finals. The semi-finals were a knock out round of 10 technical questions on wildlife, their habitat, features, and behavior.
At the end of the knockout, Groups A and B each produced one person who scored the higher points while the contestants in Group C had no points to qualify either of them to the finals.
Nwodom Kingsley and Okoye Chris qualified to the finals that held on March 3 2016. Both contestants were required to send a photo-story of not more than 300 words of any wildlife at all stating how it can be preserved.

Nwodom Kingsley wrote about the Java Rhinoceros while Okoye Chris wrote about the Hawksbill Turtle. Okoye Chris emerged the winner with his endearing photo-story that spoke of how the animal and entire wildlife all over the world can be preserved. In his words "As citizens of Earth, we have an obligation to keep our 'home' safe for all organisms. We should join hands together and stand against harming of the Hawksbill Turtle"

Okoye Chris, 18, a first year student of applied biochemistry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka upon emerging winner of the competition was awarded the grand monetary prize and will be speaking as a delegate at the Earthplus Earth Day Summit in April where he would also be presented with eco-friendly gift items from Kola Badmus and souvenirs from Care About Climate, USA.
