It's no secret that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=news/dwayne-the-rock-johnson/) has a special connection with his fans.
While on location shooting "Baywatch" in Savannah, Georgia, Johnson took the time to meet one of his youngest admirers, 1-year-old Sally Walker Collins. He said Collins was "an inspiring lil fighter" who had open heart surgery at 5 months old and was now celebrating a "very special birthday."
"Her mama, Sarah here was so grateful we had a chance to meet and got teary eyed when talking about her baby and said something so simple, powerful and true," Johnson captioned an Instagram photo, in which he poses with Collins and her family. "'If Sally can fight thru this, then we can do anything.' Amen. Yes you can."
Shooting on location always draws a crowd and I got word that a mom asked if I would meet her daughter who's celebrating a very special birthday. Well I love me some birthdays so where is mama and her babies. Was so happy to have met lil' Sally Walker Collins, who just turned 1. When she was 5months old she had open heart surgery and has been an inspiring lil' fighter since that day. Her mama, Sarah here was so grateful we had a chance to meet and got teary eyed when talking about her baby and said something so simple, powerful and true.. "If Sally can fight thru this, then we can do anything." Amen. Yes you can. Real pleasure meeting this great family and if by remote chance I got teary eyed too when she was talking about her daughter's struggle - it's a good thing I had my shades on so no one would see. But of course I never cry 'cause I'm too tough for that stuff. I'm just sayin' if I did, I was prepared. The Rock's longtime girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, recently gave birth to the couple's first child together (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/dwayne-the-rock-johnson-first-photo-baby-girl-talks-about-fatherhood_us_56797265e4b06fa6887eae49), so we're sure meeting little Sally was extra emotional.
The entertainer has visited with lots of fans since he's stepped on the "Baywatch" set. Just last week, Johnson introduced his followers to one of the "coolest fans ever" named Kyle, as well as some of the kids he met at the Pediatric Specialty Ward.
Met one of the COOLEST FANS EVER today - Kyler. I said "Let me see your muscles buddy" and BAM he flexed! Clearly he's been doing those all important "curls for the girls". Great to meet you buddy and really cool to meet the rest of y'all too. Hi five'n lil' Charleigh here when I surprised her at the Pediatric Specialty Ward was awesome. Managed to get this beauty to smile by repeating the hi five game over and over and over again. Ok so when I walked in to surprise Lauren at the Specialty Pediatric Ward she smiled big. BUT, when she told me she LOVES Disney princesses and I told her that I have a new Disney animated musical coming out that introduces a new princess named, "Moana" she smiled huge. THEN, when I told Lauren that she was just like Moana - beautiful, smart, ultra cool and super strong... she had the greatest reaction.. She laughed with a massive smile. Then I told her and guess who's playing the male lead in Moana and is singing sooooooooongs..... she said "who?" I said, "ME!" I'm pretty sure she forced a smile to make Uncle DJ feel good. She was the first kid I saw when I got to the ward and she certainly set the tone for the day. What a smile. Stay strong honey and can't wait for you to see Moana, because you're just like her. Johnson even took time out of his busy schedule to meet with a 16-year-old named Fernando, who's last wish was to meet The Rock.
"Finally got to bed that night 'bout 3am and thought about my meeting w/ Fernando," Johnson captioned his Instagram photo with the young fan. "Thought what a powerful reminder to be as grateful as we can be, love the heck outta our family and friends and squeeze every bit out of life possible, 'cause we never know what's around the corner."
World I want to introduce you to a very special young man. This is 16yr old Fernando. A junior at Coosa High School in Rome, GA. He was diagnosed with cancer in the 6th grade. That same year his left leg had to be amputated, and by his 9th grade year he had to remove a tumor due to cancer spreading. Oct 2015 his left arm was amputated due to a tumor found in his upper arm. On Feb 24th, 2016 Fernando got word that cancer had spread to his left lung and this would be his final fight. One of his final wishes was to meet me. We did just that this past Saturday, on my set. In Atlanta, GA. This kid's perspective on life knocked me off my feet. Smile on his face, funny as hell, sincere and calm. Easily one of the coolest kids I've ever met and a meeting I'll never forget. Finally got to bed that night 'bout 3am and thought about my meeting w/ Fernando. Thought what a powerful reminder to be as grateful as we can be, love the heck outta our family and friends and squeeze every bit out of life possible, 'cause we never know what's around the corner. Fernando had a special shirt made for me. On the front reads "Fernando's Fight. Strength, Courage, Determination" and on the back, "The People's Champ". He embodies every word on that shirt - especially The People's Champ. That's exactly what you are buddy, a Champion of the people, by inspiring all those around you. Including me.
