What do these mean?

I have turned all these off since I'm afraid they use data/battery for nothing. Can someone explain what these mean? It's the System Services in Location Services. 1) Cell Network Search 2) Compass Calibration 3_ Diagnostics & Usage? 4) Genius for Apps?
