Can't make/receive calls, data works fine

My iPhone 5 (on iOS 10.3.3) has lost phone service twice in the last couple of weeks. Symptoms: The signal dots only show 0 or 1, and I can't make or receive phone calls. However, texts and cellular data work just fine, as does WiFi. I do NOT get a "No Service" message). My wife's Android phone...
