chatr sim card not working in iphone

Hi, i recently just bought an iphone 4 and want to use it with my chatr sim card. i cut the sim card down to the right size. When i put it in the iphone i get a "no sim installed" message however when i put it back in the old phone it works just fine. Could someone please help me out
