problem with signal on iphone 3g using straight talk

I have an Iphone 3g and using it with straight talk it was an att phone unlocked. I only have 1 bar signal while my roommate who has an original straight talk phone has full signal is there a fix for this? Also can only send pics to other Iphones and not androids used unlockit to do apn any help...
