Removing Scratches Using Car Polish

I’ve got a used iPhone with scratches and I was thinking if anyone has ever used car body polish to remove scratches from a screen? I was even considering using very fine sandpaper (2500 or 3000 grit) to sand it first and then buff it with a power driver with a micro fiber buffing pad attached....
