This thread is gold.
Just want to add - if you're new to Calgary, download the Calgary Transit app and explore the C-Train system. It's not perfect but it gets you around the core pretty well.

Love seeing all the new independent businesses popping up in Inglewood and Kensington. Support local! These are the places that give Calgary its character.
Cheers!

Welcome! This forum is actually one of the best resources for everything Calgary. Way better than asking on Reddit because the people here actually live in the neighborhoods they talk about.
Good luck!

Property taxes in Calgary are definitely going up but honestly they're still way better than what my friends pay in Toronto or Vancouver. And no land transfer tax in Alberta which saved us thousands.
The market right now is competitive but not insane like Toronto or Vancouver. You can still get a nice detached home under $600K in a good neighborhood if you're willing to look at University District or Cougar Ridge. just sayin
Good luck!

Great post! I moved here from Saskatchewan about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. The mountains, the sunshine, the people - Calgary really does have it all.

Alberta Health Services wait times can be long but the quality of care in Calgary hospitals is actually really good. I've had great experiences at Foothills and South Health Campus. So grateful for this community!
Good luck!

Took the family to Trolley 5 this weekend. Kids loved it, great portions, and the bill didn't make me cry. That's a win in my books.

Yoga studios in Calgary range from beginner-friendly to advanced. If you're just starting out, try Bridgette Bar in South Calgary. Really welcoming instructors who don't judge.

Loving Calgary so far! For groceries, the best value in Calgary is honestly the ethnic supermarkets. T&T, Superstore International aisle, and the shops on International Avenue have way better prices on produce and spices.

TELUS fibre is the best internet I've had in Calgary. The speeds are consistent and I rarely have outages. Worth the switch from Shaw/Rogers if it's available in your area.
Good luck!

Hope that helps.

One thing I've learned: property taxes in Calgary are definitely going up but honestly they're still way better than what my friends pay in Toronto or Vancouver. And no land transfer tax in Alberta which saved us thousands. Hope that helps!

This thread is gold. Saving it for when my friends from back east ask me about Calgary. Pretty much covers everything.
Cheers!

Hot take: the Flames prospect pipeline is actually looking really strong right now. Give it 2-3 years and this team is going to be a serious contender. Can't wait!

For what it's worth - if you want authentic Vietnamese, head to the NE along International Avenue. Whitehall is our go-to but there are honestly like 20 great spots within a few blocks.

Just did a refinance on our Calgary home and the process was actually really smooth. Rates are better than I expected. Shopped around using a broker.

Flames fan here - just a heads up about Evergreen - the new development is bringing in a lot of traffic. Still a great area but something to consider if you're on the main roads. Go Flames!

On a related note with the Flames, comedy scene in Calgary is underrated. The Laugh Shop and Yuk Yuk's both bring in solid acts. Great for a different kind of night out.

Proof for date night is perfect. Great ambiance, amazing menu, and the cocktails are on point. Can't recommend it enough. Book ahead though, it fills up fast.
Hope that helps.
