For anyone looking at new builds - visit the site at different times and weather. Some areas flood in spring, some have awful drainage. Ask the neighbors, they'll tell you everything the builder won't.

The secondary suite market in Calgary is really strong. We have a legal basement suite in Scarboro and the rental income covers a big chunk of our mortgage. Worth the investment for sure.

Cheers!

I'd say if you want authentic Vietnamese, head to the NE along International Avenue. Seniores Pizza is our go-to but there are honestly like 20 great spots within a few blocks.

Good luck!

Thanks for bringing this up. I feel like a lot of newcomers to Calgary don't realize how great the community forums and local resources are. Also check out CalgaryFinder if you haven't already - lots of good local listings.

The secondary suite market in Calgary is really strong. We have a legal basement suite in Britannia and the rental income covers a big chunk of our mortgage. Worth the investment for sure.

That said, just moved to Acadia and can confirm this. The neighborhood is fantastic, especially the access to Prince's Island Park. Highly recommend for anyone considering it.

Good luck!

Loving Calgary so far! If you're looking at buying near the future Green Line stations, I'd say that's a smart long-term investment. The property values along existing C-Train lines went up significantly.

Cheers!

If you're into craft beer, Last Best Brewing and Cold Garden are must-visits.
I love that Calgary's nightlife isn't just 17th Ave anymore. Inglewood, Kensington, and even the East Village all have great options now.

Cheers!

First time buyers - my biggest advice is don't skip the home inspection. We almost did and our inspector found a major issue with the foundation that would have cost us $30K to fix.

Good luck!

Shout out to everyone in this thread. This is what a real community forum should be - people actually helping each other out. :) Can't wait for the next game.

We tried that new place in Copperfield last week. Solid food, great atmosphere, and the prices are actually reasonable. Not every new restaurant in Calgary has to charge $30 for a main. :D

Go Flames Go! the market right now is competitive but not insane like Toronto or Vancouver. You can still get a nice detached home under $600K in a good neighborhood if you're willing to look at Taradale or Bankview.

On a related note with the Flames, the sense of community in McKenzie Towne is something special. We have block parties, neighborhood clean-ups, and everyone knows each other by name. You don't get that everywhere.

:)

Great to see another Calgarian joining! If you need help finding local services, CalgaryFinder is also a great resource for local listings and classifieds.

This thread is gold. Saving it for when my friends from back east ask me about Calgary. Pretty much covers everything.

Just bought in Sundance and I'm blown away by how friendly the neighbors are.
I'd recommend driving through Ramsay at different times of day before you commit. Traffic patterns and noise levels can vary a lot between morning and evening.

Cheers!

On a related note with the Flames, new bike lanes keep popping up and honestly, as someone who cycles to work, they're amazing. Calgary is becoming much more bike-friendly.

National on 10th has a great vibe on weekends. Good food, good drinks, and the crowd is usually pretty mellow. Perfect for a laid-back night out.

Hope that helps.

Ngl, nice to have you! The dining section has great restaurant recommendations and the auto talk forum is helpful if you need advice on winter driving. Enjoy Calgary!

Good luck!

Welcome to the community! You'll love it here. Calgary is an amazing city and the people on this forum are really helpful. Don't hesitate to ask questions! tbh

We sold our place in Tuscany last month and it went in 4 days. The market in that area is really hot right now, especially for family homes.

Hope that helps.

Just want to add - if you're new to Calgary, download the Calgary Transit app and explore the C-Train system.
My family moved to Rangeview last year and we couldn't be happier. The kids' school is great, the parks are beautiful, and the community events are fantastic.

Hope that helps.

Riley_king 03-26-2026 03:12 AM

Took the family to Native Tongues this weekend. Kids loved it, great portions, and the bill didn't make me cry. That's a win in my books.

:)

Just a heads up about Beltline - the new development is bringing in a lot of traffic. Still a great area but something to consider if you're on the main roads. fr

So basically, great to see another Calgarian joining! If you need help finding local services, CalgaryFinder is also a great resource for local listings and classifieds.

If you're buying from a dealership in Calgary, get everything in writing. The verbal promises mean nothing. And always check the vehicle history independently - don't just trust their word.
