IHT Rendezvous: A Man on a Wire Above China's 'Grand Canyon'
 

Dean Potter, a professional American rock climber known as the Dark Wizard, walked barefoot last weekend across a 130-foot tightrope that was strung a mile above a canyon in central China. No safety strap, no parachute, no backup. Mr. Potter's view of these untethered walks: "You slip, you die."
