Mitt Romney and the Republican Party favor a tougher line on Chinese trade practices and human rights, they want a more robust U.S. naval presence in the Asia-Pacific region, and they'd sell high-tech arms to Taiwan. China says the "pugnacious" proposals smack of "a Cold War mentality."
