Internet Reminds Donald Trump His Signature Collection Is Made In Mexico
Not much gets past the Internet. Donald Trump is currently embroiled in a steaming pot of controversy after making derogatory comments about Latin American immigrants, claiming criminals and rapists are coming to the United States from Mexico and advocating for "a great wall" at the border to keep people out. However, he seemed to forget that he uses Mexican workers to produce his Donald J. Trump Signature Collection menswear line. BuzzFeed's editor of Latino coverage and political reporter, Adrian Carrasquillo, decided to remind him. ? pic.twitter.com/19h8BOQSrF (The frog and coffee emoji is a reference to a Kermit the Frog meme that translates to "but that's none of my business.") Trump first made the offensive comments while announcing his candidacy for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination in June. Mexico is "sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us," he said. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." On Tuesday, he tweeted that the reason for his gripe is that Mexico is taking jobs away from the U.S. Trump -- whose clothing line is produced outside the U.S. -- has been a vocal critic of outsourcing. I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend. They're killing us at the border and they're killing us on jobs and trade. FIGHT! His remarks prompted business associates of the 69-year-old, including NBC and Macy's, to sever their ties. Macy's announced plans to phase out his menswear line, which it has carried since 2004. On Wednesday, Trump posted a statement on Instagram claiming he was the one who terminated the relationship with the retailer. He also noted that, if elected president, he would "bring jobs back to the United States."
