You Can Make a $598 Anthro Rug for Just $80
 

Show of hands: Who here has*spent a little *too* much time window shopping at Anthropologie*(AKA torturing themselves by pining after luxurious apparel, accessories and home decor with an equally extravagant price tag)? If you haven't already gathered from our many*DIY copycat posts, we can relate. So we're bringing you another great Anthro hack: we made this $598 Coastland Rug for a measly $80. Scroll on for the tutorial!





Materials:
--- MORUM rug from IKEA ($49.99)
--- fabric paint
--- paint brushes
--- painter's tape
--- pencil
--- measuring tape
--- paper plate or paint palette
--- water

Instructions:
1.*Using painter's tape, outline the edges of the rug. Then tape down your pattern. If you want to be exact, use a measuring tape and pencil to trace the lines before you paint.
2. Paint water onto the rug, then quickly go over with fabric paint. You can also water down the paint on a palette, but we found the former technique to be more successful.
3. Using the technique mentioned in step 2, paint each section. Then let dry overnight.
4. When the paint is completely dry, pull off the tape.*And you're*done!



Technically, you could use normal house paint or acrylic paint, but fabric paint is more likely to sink into the*textile*fibers, thus making it look more natural.
