Helpful Hints: World Breastfeeding Week August 1st thru 7th

Fact: 40 out of 50 states have not passed laws protecting a mother's right to breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private; where the mother is otherwise authorized to be; whether or not the mothers breast is covered during or incidental to the breastfeeding.



Tip: Attend a breastfeeding class during your third trimester and get a phone number of a health professional who is trained in breastfeeding management.


Benefit: Colostrum, mother's milk during the first 3 to 5 days postpartum, is baby's first immunization.


Risk: Children who are not exclusively breastfeed for 6 months are 25% more likely to become obese.


Myth: Some formulas are better than breast-milk because they have added vitamins.
