Cannot receive incoming calls on new phone
 

Hello.

I work in an office, and up until a few days ago we still had an older, large corded landline.
Since everyone here wanted a newer cordless phone, we bought one and plugged it in using the same phone line the previous landline was using.

After some testing, we found that the new cordless phone can call out - with our number - but cannot receive calls. Anyone who calls us hears it ring 3 times before it goes to voicemail.
In the phone's manual, they suggest letting the phone charge overnight before declaring it defective, so we plugged the old landline back in.

We tried the new phone again today and the same issue arises, even with a full charge. I have verified the new phone is using our correct number for making outgoing calls, but for some reason will still not receive any incoming calls.
We have the ability to return the phone, but would prefer not to.
