On a related note with the Flames, our electricity bill this winter was shocking. If you haven't already, look into the regulated rate vs. fixed rate contracts. Can make a big difference depending on your usage.

For groceries, the best value in Calgary is honestly the ethnic supermarkets. T&T, Superstore International aisle, and the shops on International Avenue have way better prices on produce and spices. Hope that helps!

Rent in Saddle Ridge has gone up about 10% this year. If you're renewing a lease, know your rights under Alberta tenancy law. Landlords have to give proper notice for increases.

Gas prices at Costco on Deerfoot are usually the cheapest in the city. Worth the drive and the lineup if you're filling up a big tank.

Grocery bills have been insane lately. We've switched to a combination of Costco, No Frills, and the Asian supermarkets for better prices. Still spending more than a year ago though.

Good luck!

Also worth mentioning: hard agree on the winter driving thing. I'm originally from the coast and the first winter here was an eye opener. But you adapt and honestly snow tires make all the difference.

Respectfully disagree here. daycare costs in Calgary are coming down with the federal $10/day program but the waitlists are ridiculous. Get on the list as soon as possible - like before the kid is born.

We used FullVIN before buying our last car. Came back clean which gave us peace of mind. Definitely recommend checking before you buy.
