When the United States formally declared the Haqqani network in Afghanistan to be a terrorist organization, the Taliban's reaction was angry, swift and deadly. And noting the close ties between the Haqqanis and Pakistan's spy agency, some analysts floated the idea that Pakistan itself might some day be declared a state sponsor of terrorism.
