Sim card needed for prepaid phone for porting landline number?

I am thinking about porting the home phone number to a prepaid phone. But my prepaid phone does not support Sim cards. Is a Sim card needed for prepaid phone for porting landline number? Maybe I will need to buy a new prepaid Android phone.
