Custom Rom And Rooted Wanting To Unlock

So I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 on Rogers which is currently rooted and running CM12.1 My question is, do I need to change my phone back to factory settings before getting it unlocked? Also is there any reliable alternatives to paying Rogers to unlock it? Thanks in advance.
