How does the claim process work?

Hey. Last month I got injured in a car accident from Ottawa, and it was caused due to the negligence of the other person, it was clear. My boy had seen this guy driving too fast, he was on the pavement and I went there to pick him up. Last day I called a motor vehicle accident lawyer to discuss the procedures to claim the insurance(including medical expense). He was good and provided an overview of this claim. I'm going to meet him in person by next week. I'd like to know more about this before meeting him.
My question is- How does the claim process work?
I'd be grateful for your thoughts about this - especially if you are an existing lawyer or an experienced client.
