The family of Samuel DuBose, a 43-year-old black man who was shot and killed by a University of Cincinnati (UC) police officer (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/watch-the-body-cam-video-that-led-to-an-officer-being-charged-with-the-murder-of-sam-dubose_55b91e98e4b0224d8834ee02) on July 19, reached a $5.3 million settlement with the school on Monday.
DuBose's family will receive $4.85 million plus free undergraduate tuition for DuBose's 12 children, as well as a memorial commemorating him at the university, according to the Associated Press. Former UC police officer Ray Tensing shot and killed DuBose, who was unarmed, in his car on July 19. He allegedly stopped DuBose for not having a front license plate (http://start.westnet.ca/newstempch.php?article=entry/cop-pleads-not-guilty-in-killing-of-sam-dubose_55ba3205e4b095423d0df5d4).
Tensing, who is white, was indicted on murder charges.
