Sorting the flakey wifi/Internet connection on the Wii U?

My Wii U is in exactly the same place as my Wii was, and is connected to the exact same router/wifi setup. I never had any issues with the Wii losing the Internet connection, yet the Wii U is very flakey - it drops every few minutes, then picks up ...
