Import duties, taxes and charges from USA to Canada ?

Hello, As far as I know, Canadians don't pay taxes on cell phones that come from USA. Anyone knows if this category also includes tablets/phablets, whether purchased from Amazon or sent as gifts by friends ? I can't find a clear answer. Thanks,
