How to make my hair grow faster?

I'm mixed with black and white, and I've always been told that black hair grows slower than white hair, but I've always found that to be really unconvincing. I have really thick, curly hair. I'm not exactly sure what type, tighter than an "S" shaped curl, but not quite a cork-screw curl either....
