How do long-distance addons work?

Paying way too much in long distance charges lately, lol. somewhere around 70-150 minutes/month at 0.40$ each I have student 55, which a rep told me has 200 daytime minutes. because of 6pm evenings/weekends, telus-telus LD and my10, i only use about 50 or so of those daytime minutes a month. ...
