Default Shark Discovers Diver's Cage Far Less Tasty Than Expected (VIDEO)

Smile for the camera!

A woman with a taste for danger got uncomfortably close to a great white shark while cage diving in South Africa's Mossel Bay.

Thrill seeker Hillary Rae Petroski uploaded video to YouTube of her recent close encounter with a shark. She said an 11.5-foot great white swam up and tried to take a bite out of the shark cage while she was inside.

"The round buoy attached to the side of the cage was bent in half. Some of the lining of the outside blue barrier bar was bitten through as well. It was quite the up close and personal experience!" Petroski wrote in the video's description.

In the video, the cage can be heard creaking under the immense pressure of the shark's powerful jaws, while Petroski's friends scream hysterically out of frame.

For an amateur video Petroski's footage is pretty spectacular, but even professional divers have gotten way too close for comfort. One crew filming shark footage for Animal Planet had to contend with an 18-foot great white that broke into their underwater cage:

Critics of cage diving say that the tourist activity is harmful because it makes sharks more comfortable around humans. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
