AT&T Any difference between ATTT unlock or Apple factory unlock?

Hi, I am thinking about buying the Iphone 5 unlock. I am just wondering if there is any difference between the IPhone 5 Unlock from ATT or factory unlock iphone 5 from Apple. Any idea when Apple will start selling factory unlock Iphone 5? Thanks.
