An NYPD sergeant was indicted Wednesday on charges related to raping a young girl for years, starting when she was 15 years old.
In a 40-count indictment, a grand jury in Brooklyn said 43-year-old Joel Doseau met the girl online, then had sexual intercourse and exchanged illicit photos with her between 2007 and 2009, PIX 11 reports. The abuse may have continued for years after that, according to the New York Daily News. Doseau was arrested Wednesday after the victim -- now in her 20s -- came forward. Doseau, who reportedly earned $101,000 last year with the NYPD, met the girl online when she was 14 years old. He allegedly lied about his own age online, and she sent him nude photographs. The two then met several times after she turned 15 to have sex over the course of at least two years, according to AM New York. His charges are as follows:
Doseau's arrest is another black eye for the NYPD, which has come under fire in recent months after several of its cops were investigated on rape and groping allegations in separate incidents. Bronx cop Vladimir Sosa was arraigned in March on charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl, who he met at church. In January, the NYPD Internal Investigations Bureau was probing cop Lukasz Skorzewski, who allegedly groped a female rape victim and tried to tear her clothes off. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
