Default MLS Player Chad Barrett Scores, Immediately Injures Himself While Celebrating

The Seattle Sounders scored early against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, but were dealt a heavy blow in return.

Within the first minute of the match, forward Chad Barrett got on the end of a whipped-in cross from Erik Friberg to put the Sounders ahead 1-0.

But as quickly as Barrett scored, he had to leave the pitch. The striker ended up injuring himself during his own celebration.

It was a massive goal against a tough opponent. The Galaxy are currently in second place in the MLS' Western Conference and the up-and-down Sounders are teetering on the brink of a playoff spot.

Moments after scoring, however, Barrett's looks of joy turned to a sharp expression of pain. As teammates crowded their goalscorer, Barrett began clutching his hamstring.

Unable to continue, Barrett was subbed off a minute later. The Sounders, already without star forwards Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins due to injury, were unable to capitalize on their opening goal in the remaining 88 minutes, losing 3-1.

The loss marked the Sounders' eighth in nine league games. With 10 losses on the season and 10 games to go, they've already matched their club record for losses.

We’ve just got guys going down left and right -- after they’re scoring goals, for crying out loud," Sounders defender Zach Scott lamented to the Seattle Times after the match. "

Through his pyrrhic victory, Barrett can now be mentioned alongside the likes of Bill Gramatica, who infamously tore his ACL while celebrating a field goal in December 2001.

Celebrate safely, kiddos.
