In anticipation of the
upcoming "supermoon" lunar eclipse, NASA has released a remarkable new video (above) that shows what the rare celestial event will look like not from Earth, but from the surface of the moon.
The stark animation shows
the disc of a darkened Earth passing in front of the sun over the lunar horizon. As the Earth blots out the sun, the lunar landscape is thrust into shadow. At the same time, a reddish ring appears around our planet--the result of sunlight shining through Earth's atmosphere.
The view from the moon is pretty dramatic. Of course, we earthlings will have our own dramatic view of the eclipse, which is set for 9:07
p.m. ET on Sept. 27, 2015, weather permitting.
