Default Great Tips On How To Keep Your Marriage A Monogamous One

Are humans truly meant to be together for life? Or are people always going to be tempted by outside desires, no matter the circumstances? We had psychotherapist and relationship specialist Lisa Brateman on the show to talk with us about the state of monogamy, obstacles to commitment in the modern age, and how we can work through issues of loyalty in our own relationships.

There's no one secret to keeping a marriage monogamous - only the responsibility of the individuals can dictate that. But strengthening a relationship (to possibly prevent wandering eyes) is a preventative measure we all could benefit from. For this, Lisa has one big tip, and it's a good one -
Don't let fear stop you from asking the questions you need to know the answers to.
And these questions don't have to be weighty, loaded, relationship changing questions! They can be simple expressions of feeling that can help steer your relationship in the right direction. Lisa suggests asking something as basic as "how can we spend more time together?" Or, "Why has our sex life changed? Or, even more simply, "What's going on? It seems like something has changed; what is it?" These questions will help bring any couple together, as long as there is a mutual understanding of how to discuss it. "Note what the changes are without the blame," says Lisa, something we all can do a better job of - monogamous or not!
