Default WashPost: Reporter's Case Should Give US Pause In Iran Dealings

WASHINGTON (AP) — The publisher of The Washington Post says the United States, other governments and businesses should keep the newspaper's detained reporter in mind when considering improved relations with Iran.

Thursday marks the 500th day of journalist Jason Rezaian's detention, and publisher Frederick J. Ryan Jr. says the case should give everyone pause.

Ryan says in a statement that "if the callous regime in Tehran imprisons and abuses a fully accredited and innocentjournalist, what might they do to a visiting delegation?" He also wonders "how would they treat employees stationed in Iran?"

Ryan says Rezaian should be released immediately.

The 39-year-old Rezaian grew up in Northern California and has dual American and Iranian citizenship.

Iranian TV reports he's been sentenced to prison on charges that include espionage.
